Kanangra

What an amazingly rugged part of the world. Everything out here is steep. Really steep. You don’t see many topo maps with contour lines this tight. Based on first hand experience, I absolutely know why Mt Paralyser is named so.

And the canyons. Well, they’re not really canyons. More like open gullies punctuated with awesome waterfalls. The canyons aren’t like those in the Bluies, the terrain is steeper but more open. The rock is mostly quartzite rather than sandstone making for a slippery affair. And the days are long. Usually 10-12 hours with a bloody long walk out. One of the better known exits for Kalang Falls, Danae Brook and Kanangra Main is Murdering Gully - ‘nuff said.

So, get out here. It’s awesome.

Woo Hoo! 3rd and final EPIC training trip for a private NZ Mountaineering Trip next week and a huge one off my bucket list - I’ve now completed all the Kanangra Canyons flowing into Kanangra Creek - mind you, I haven’t done Kanangra Main …

Kanangra Main

27 Dec 2016

Kanangra Main is my photography nemesis. When I last did Kanangra Main way back in 2008 with Greg and Paul I somehow managed to format my SD drive after a few too many Coopers around the camp fire and lost all my shots and so was keen to do it again.

Epic! That’s what the boys reckon. I thought it was awesome. It has everything you could ask for and more! A demanding and remote adventure with absolutely stunning waterfalls and abseils, pristine creek walking, an optional side trip to Danae …

Davies Canyon

27-29 Mar 2009

Awesome!!! Davies Canyon is one of of the best canyons I’ve done, but really Tuff. It’s actually an open gorge rather than a canyon, but boy is it spectacular!
