Woo Hoo! 3rd and final EPIC training trip for a private NZ Mountaineering Trip next week and a huge one off my bucket list - I've now completed all the Kanangra Canyons flowing into Kanangra Creek - mind you, I haven't done Kanangra Main via the Slot - does that count? Now I've just got to do all the Canyons flowing into the Kowmung.

Kanangra Main is my photography nemesis. When I last did Kanangra Main way back in 2008 with Greg and Paul I somehow managed to format my SD drive after a few too many Coopers around the camp fire and lost all my shots and so was keen to do it again. As Anton, Bec, Mike and I are due to do a Mountaineering Course in mid-January, this seemed like a good way to do some hill climbing in preparation.

We decided to head up on Boxing Day arvo, so everything was a rush - I couldn't find my Kanangra map so had to print one out, didn't manage to get food prepared so a roast chicken from Coles was the best I could manage ...

Finally we departed at around 5:00pm and as we expected the Pizza place in Hartley to be closed, Mike and Bec bought some hideous potato scallops from the the Mt York servo - and what do you know? The Pizza place was open after all. So we had Pizza - how could you not?

Epic! That's what the boys reckon. I thought it was awesome. It has everything you could ask for and more! A demanding and remote adventure with absolutely stunning waterfalls and abseils, pristine creek walking, an optional side trip to Danae Brook, the best walk out ever and a great open fire cook up with a few glasses of plonk on the banks of Kanangra Creek. But seriously very hard - Kanangra Main is a Picnic in comparison.

K2K ina day! Yay! Well, technically, as we finished at the Golden Stairs we didn't complete the walk - only 870m short of the official finish which is the Old Climbers Carpark at Narrowneck. But, if you have an engineering background as I do, as opposed to a theoretical mathematician's, you'll know that close enough is good enough!

A challenging bushwalk in the Kanangra region. Originally I had planned to do a three day walk from Kanangra to Katoomba for the Silver Qualifying Walk but alas the logistics of the car shuffle proved to be too complex so I settled for a three day circuit starting at Kanangra Walls, down the Gingra Ridge to the Kowmung River, up to 100 Man Cave via Compagnoni Pass and the Ti Willa Plateau

Awesome!!! Davies Canyon is one of of the best canyons I've done, but really Tuff. It's actually an open gorge rather than a canyon, but boy is it spectacular!

I'd previously written this up in another website which was hacked so hopefully I've remembered it correctly. It's entirely possible that I may have exagerated certain aspects of the trip ;-)

We'd been organising this trip for a while and Stuart had decided to buy a new rope to match his existing rope for the long 50m abseils, what dedication is that? But why did he choose 11mm instead of 9mm? Unlike many other canyons, there really wasn't much info on the internet on Davies apart from what was available on Tom Brennan's Ozultimate site, so it was bound to be an exciting adventure.
